Fancy Fold Friday #6

Happy Friday everyone!

Fancy Fold Friday posts are posted on the first Friday of each month and are about making a wide variety of card styles just by varying the way that the paper is folded. Knowing how to fold cards from a single sheet of cardstock is a useful technique to learn. Many different styles of handmade cards can be created from standard sizes of paper and card stock ~ typically 8 1/2″ x 11″ {letter size}. The various methods of card folding each provide different design opportunities. Very unique looks can be achieved simply by changing the fold or orientation of your card and special folds are a great way to create eye catching cards!

This week: COLLAR FOLD.

The “Collar” fold is a very simple fold that allows you to show off both sides of double sided patterned paper. The fold however is not on the card base itself like other folds but on the layer of paper attached to the top surface of the card base. This fold can be done on any size card ~ the cut and fold measurements would just have to be adjusted. It can be done on either portrait {vertical} or landscape {horizontal} style cards.

You will need {to make the card base}: card stock, double sided patterned paper, scoring board, bone folder, paper trimmer or cutting tools of choice, adhesive. *Additional supplies may include stamps/ink and whatever embellishments/extras need to complete the intended design.

Begin with a piece of double sided patterned paper measuring  4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. Along the top edge, measure half way across {2 11/16″} and make a pencil tick mark. Then starting from that mark, measure downwards to 1 1/2″ and make another pencil tick mark.

Cut from the top tick mark down 1 1/2″ to the second mark. Erase the tick marks.

Fold back each side and use a bone folder to score the fold from the top corners to the middle cut. Add a little adhesive to keep the flaps down nice and flat. Adhere this panel to the card front.

Now it’s time to decorate!

#1} I stamped a sentiment and some music notes from his singing on the plain card stock above the folds.

#2} Then adhered a metallic doily.

#3} Card stock cutting:  1} 2 – 1 1/4″ circles and 1 – 1″ circle were punched from white card stock and glued together to make a snowman ~ sponge around the edges lightly if desired. 2} An orange carrot nose. 3} A songbook for him to hold ~ stamped with little snowman hands 🙂

#4} Color a black oval for his mouth leaving just a little spot of white.

#5} For the finishing touches, I applied a bit of white glue to the snowman, dusted him with Dazzling Diamonds glitter and added a couple of rhinestones to the patterned paper.
