6″ x 6″ Project #1

Hi everyone!

I think it’s nice to sometimes be able to create items using basic supplies that we already have on hand ~ like patterned paper. Some people like the full 12″ x 12″ sheets of patterned paper while others prefer the 6″ x 6″ paper pads. Or maybe both! So I decided to do a few gift packaging projects using pieces of paper that measure 6″ x 6″. So, whichever size of paper you tend to use, you will be able to make these. Add some adhesive/embellishments and you’re ready to create! These projects can all be easily adapted to suit any season or occasion just by changing the papers and embellishments. The possibilities are endless! As always, please feel free to share your creations 🙂

Gift Bag {finished size: 1 3/4″ wide, 4 1/2″ tall, 1 ” deep}

You will need:  6″ × 6″ piece of patterned paper or card stock, scoring board, scoring tool, scissors, strong adhesive, embellishments, bag closure {ribbon, decorative clothespin or binder clip, etc.}.

Please note: you may click on the link underneath the picture below for a PDF of these instructions.

#1} Score the paper at 1″, 2 3/4″, 3 3/4″ and 5 1/2″.

#2} Rotate the paper left 90°. Then score at 1″, 4 1/2″ {this score line helps keep the bag sides open when the top sides close} and 5 1/2″.

#3} Fold all of the score lines and crease with a bone folder. On the last 5 1/2″ score line, fold it back the opposite way from the other folds.

#4} Cut out the small rectangle of paper between the 1″ fold and the 5 1/2″ fold as shown. The cut up the other 3 score lines to the 1″ fold.

#5} Using your strong adhesive, apply it to the narrow fold {with the rectangle cut out}. Fold on the score lines as shown so that the edges of the paper overlap and press to seal.

#6} Fold in the 2 smallest tabs. Angle cut the sides of the 2 larger flaps, apply adhesive to one of them, fold and adhere.

#7} Gently push the right and left sides in at the top to close the bag.  Decorate the bag if desired. Add the treat/gift and fasten the bag shut with the closure of choice. Now you have a pretty little gift bag to go with the surprise inside!
