Fancy Fold Friday #11

Happy Friday everyone!

Fancy Fold Friday posts are posted on the first Friday of each month and are about making a wide variety of card styles just by varying the way that the paper is folded. Knowing how to fold cards from a single sheet of cardstock is a useful technique to learn. Many different styles of handmade cards can be created from standard sizes of paper and card stock ~ typically 8 1/2″ x 11″ {letter size}. The various methods of card folding each provide different design opportunities. Very unique looks can be achieved simply by changing the fold or orientation of your card and special folds are a great way to create eye catching cards!

This week: FOLDING SCREEN.

Use punches to create a card that looks like a decorative room divider screen. The finished size of this card measures 2 3/4″ x 5 1/8 ” {when folded} and will fit in a standard A2 envelope.

You will need {to make the card base}: card stock, scoring board, bone folder, paper trimmer or cutting tools of choice, punches and/or dies. *Additional supplies may include card stock/patterned paper, stamps, inks, adhesives and whatever embellishments/extras need to complete the intended design.

Cut a piece of card stock to 5 1/2″ x 11″. Score at 2 3/4″, 5 1/2″ and 8-1/4″ on the long side.

Using a border punch or die, create a border along the top edge of the card.

Fold in half at the 5 1/2″ score line. Then fold each side back in the opposite direction on the scored lines. Crease score lines with a bone folder.

To create the screen “legs” at the bottom, work on only half of the card base at a time. Keep the two right panels folded together and center a punch or die to cut. ∗Please note: only punch or cut through two layers at a time to avoid damaging the punch/die. If the card stock being used is very tick, just cut one layer at a time.

Repeat with the right left panels. This is what the card base should look like.

Now it’s time to decorate! To create the finished card:

#1} Layer patterned paper onto card stock panels. The measurements are: patterned papers are 2 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ /  card stock panels are 2 5/8″ x 4 3/8″. Plain card stock could be cut to the same size as the patterned paper and then stamped before layering.

#2} Adhere to the panels.

#3} A die cut piece of white card stock was adhered to the last panel for the message.

#4} A sentiment was stamped, die cut and layered before attaching to the first panel on foam dots.

#5} Add embellishments ~ punched butterflies, enamel shapes, perfect pearls and Wink of Stella.
