Fancy Fold Friday #12

Happy Friday everyone!

Fancy Fold Friday posts are posted on the first Friday of each month and are about making a wide variety of card styles just by varying the way that the paper is folded. Knowing how to fold cards from a single sheet of cardstock is a useful technique to learn. Many different styles of handmade cards can be created from standard sizes of paper and card stock ~ typically 8 1/2″ x 11″ {letter size}. The various methods of card folding each provide different design opportunities. Very unique looks can be achieved simply by changing the fold or orientation of your card and special folds are a great way to create eye catching cards!

This week: PINWHEEL FOLD.

This card fold looks a bit tricky but I assure you it’s not. How fun for the recipient to slip off the belly band and find a special message inside 🙂

You will need {to make the card base}: double sided patterned paper, card stock, envelope punch board, scoring board, bone folder, paper trimmer or cutting tools of choice, adhesive. *Additional supplies may include card stock/patterned paper and whatever embellishments/extras need to complete the intended design.

Cut the patterned paper to 8″ square. Decide which side of the paper you want for the inside of the card which will also be the narrow outside strips that form the pinwheel design. This is the side you want facing up for the next step.

On the envelope punch board, place the left corner on the 3 3/8″ mark and score. ∗Please note: Do not punch. Turn the paper and repeat this on the remaining three sides. As you are scoring, you will notice that the score lines intersect or cross each other.

Where the score lines crossed each other, cut out the triangles as shown. This is now what it should look like with the four triangles removed.

Flip the paper over and place it on the scoring board. Score at 1″ from the top of the paper to the point of the triangle. Turn the paper and repeat this on the remaining three sides.

Fold the score 1″ score lines and crease the bone folder.

Add a panel to the inside for the sentiment or hand written message. I just added a 4 1/8″ square piece of white card stock but this piece could be cut to 4″ square and matted with a coordinating card stock cut to 4 1/8″ square.

To fold the card: left flap, top flap, right flap then tuck under the last fold to secure.

I then created a 1″ belly band and added a die cut sentiment/embellishments.

I hope you enjoyed this months Fancy Fold!
