Handmade Holiday 2018 ~ Day #3

Hi everyone!

Welcome to day #3 of this year’s Handmade Holiday series. The holiday season can be such a busy time but it is still nice to create handmade items and add special touches to gifts for family and friends. Each day this week I will be sharing a new idea for creating a quick handmade holiday project. There will be tutorials for tags, home décor, gift card holders, recipes, treat holders and more. I hope that you will join me!

Day #3 ~ Gift Card Holder

Today we are going to create a quick and easy gift card holder. Gift cards have become so popular for gift giving. So let’s create a fun way to give them! You can get a bunch of these made up in no time!

You will need: cardstock, patterned paper {DSP}, cutting tool of choice, scoring board / tool, bone folder, scissors, adhesive, greeting stamp/ink pad, die/punch, die cutting machine {if using a die}, binder clip, ribbon, embellishments.

#1} Cut cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 6″ {holder}.

#2} On the 4 1/2″ side, score at 1/2″. On the 6″ side, score at 1 5/8″ then turn and score at 1 5/8″ on the other end.

#3} Fold on the score lines and crease with the bone folder. Cut off the 2 rectangle corners. Slightly angle cut the corners of the bottom flap {this makes a cleaner looking fold}.

#4} Apply adhesive along the inside edge of one of the side panels and on the inside of the bottom flap. Fold over the panel without adhesive and then fold over the panel with adhesive to adhere before folding up the bottom flap. Go over each fold with the bone folder to ensure nice crisp folds. There is your gift card holder ~ now it’s time to decorate!

#5} Cut DSP to 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. Adhere to the front of the gift card holder leaving equal borders on all 4 sides.

#6} I stamped a sweet little stocking hedgehog on Tim Holtz watercolor paper and colored it with an aqua pen/inks {the colors ran a little bit as I used a bit too much water}. Then cut it out with an oval die and layered it on an oval cardstock mat. A stamped greeting, a couple of pearls and a binder clip with a tiny bow finishes it off leaving it ready for a gift card 🙂
